Wampire Share Easygoing, Romantically Disillusioned ‘Trains’

Wampire

Wampire’s debut album, Curiosity, doesn’t arrive until May 14 via Polyvinyl, but the Portland duo has already shared two previous songs from the record: groove-based space-out “Spirit Forest” and spazzy horrow show “The Hearse.” Now comes their most laid-back song yet, “Trains,” which Wampire’s Eric Phipps came up with at an age when he was “overly idealistic about love” (via Rolling Stone). The delicately arranged, grainy, and off-kilter psych-pop leaves no mistaking its producer, Unknown Mortal Orchestra bassist Jake Portrait. If UMO are “So Good at Being in Trouble,” this winning tune about being kept waiting in romantic purgatory reiterates that Wampire have skills of their own.
