See Phoenix Uncomfortably Close Up as They Perform New Song ‘The Real Thing’ Live

phoenix, bankrupt!, the real thing

As Phoenix soar across North America for their first tour in two years, live footage of the French outfit performing songs from their upcoming full-length, Bankrupt! (out April 9 via Loyaute/Glassnote), crops up online. We’ve already spotted the Versailles quartet playing lead single “Entertainment,” as well as “Bourgeois,” “Drakkar Noir,” and “Chloroform”; now there’s an extreme close-up of Phoenix spreading their wings on “The Real Thing” onstage in San Francisco last night (April 1). The muffled audio doesn’t do the track’s explosive chorus justice, but whoever filmed this three-minute clip must have had a front row spot — there’s a clear view up frontman Thomas Mars’ nose just after the one-minute mark.
