Fiona Apple Cuts Tour Dates From One to Zero With Primavera Pullout

Fiona Apple

The absurdly outstanding lineup for Barcelona’s Primavera Festival this year just got one artist less absurdly outstanding. Fiona Apple has canceled her only scheduled 2013 live performance, which would’ve taken place at the May 30-June 1 fest alongside Blur, the Breeders, My Bloody Valentine, Wu-Tang Clan, and the Knife. Also, so, so many other impressive acts.

As Pitchfork points out, Primavera announced Apple’s withdrawal on the festival’s website, citing only “reasons beyond the control of the organizers of the festival.” A rep for Apple didn’t immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

The cancellation unfortunately isn’t Apple’s first since releasing SPIN Essential album The Idler Wheel… last year. In November, she nixed her tour to South America with a hand-written letter eloquently explaining her pit bull was dying.

Other Primavera pullouts include Foxygen, FIDLAR, and Australian band Crime & the City Solution, none of whom will be touring Europe. Foxygen canceled their European tour late last month after apologizing for their South By Southwest performance. Barcelonans have nothing to worry about, though: The festival has added still more exciting names, with Django Django, Phosphorescent, DJ Koze, and Scuba all now on the bill.

So this year’s Primavera festivalgoers won’t get “Anything We Want,” but they’ll get just about everything else a music fan could desire.
