Hear Fall Out Boy’s Strummy, Triumphant ‘Young Volcanoes’

Fall Out Boy

Fall Out Boy have shared new song “Young Volcanoes” to coincide with tickets going on sale for the reunited emo-poppers’ upcoming arena tour. And an arena would be an appropriate setting for the latest track from new album Save Rock and Roll (out on April 16 after originally being set for May). “Young Volcanoes” has more in common with the handclapping, crowd-chanting first single, “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light ‘Em Up),” than its more sweeping, aggressive follow-up, “The Phoenix.” But it’s also more lighter-ready than either of those, with Patrick Stump booming about making “boys next do-oh-oh-ohr out of assholes” amid gentle piano plinks and shuffling acoustic guitar strums. Those modest instruments are set in a laser-zapped, vastly reverberating space, with marching, glam-rock drums. You know those March Madness ads with that song by fun.? A year from now, it’s easy to imagine this one could be the music rattling across a massive sports complex. Here’s Stump: “Do you wanna feel a little beautiful, baby?”

And don’t miss photos from the band’s tiny Chicago reunion show!
