Give a musician $5,000 to make a music video and the results would most likely be lackluster. Give a musician $5,000 and comedian Hannibal Buress, however, and what you get is gold.
In the first installment of a series, Chicago’s Chance the Rapper is given just that amount to cut a video for “NaNa.” He exchanges it for smaller denominations and heads out on a Los Angeles shopping spree. They hit up the Dollar Store, throw Buress a birthday pizza party at Shakey’s (complete with Donald Glover cameo!), buy chicken suits and stand around on Hollywood Blvd. “NaNa” might also be the first video in history to film inside the legendary Laugh Factory.
The lesson here? You don’t need a Rick Ross-sized budget to make a memorable music video.
