Watch Wavves’ Boozy, Cross-Dressing ‘Afraid of Heights’ Video

Wavves, "Afraid of Heights," video, Nathan Williams, Jenny Lewis

Wavves’ new album Afraid of Heights has many echoes of Kurt Cobain, as SPIN’s Jessica Hopper notes in her review. But the title track, which contains a hint of a backing vocal from Jenny Lewis, is one of just as many moments on the album that resurrect the candied fuzz-pop hooks of Weezer, right down to the “Say It Ain’t So”-channeling lyric “found Jesus.” Pitchfork.tv has shared the video for the track, and like the clips for “Demon to Lean On” and “Sail to the Sun” it’s a memorable one, as VHS-wavy footage follows cross-dressers’ night out at a bar. Too bad the protagonist’s ensemble wouldn’t really match Wavves’ new sneakers, but the whole thing takes a dark turn at the end.

And don’t miss our 2012 cover story on Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino and Wavves’ Nathan Williams.
