Vampire Weekend Play Two Contrasting New Songs at SXSW

Vampire Weekend

Vampire Weekend’s new album Modern Vampires of the City arrives on May 7, and the New York band previewed songs from the record at a SXSW show on Saturday night. Along with the previously unveiled “Unbelievers,” the Vampire Weekend-ers performed upcoming single “Diane Young” and the likewise cleverly titled “Ya Hey.” SPIN’s own Jordan Sargent was there and described the first song as “an uptempo number with a soft, airy hook,” and the second as a “power ballad of sorts that edges up on ‘All the things I’ve Done.'” He quickly called “Diane Young” great but reserved judgment on “Ya Hey,” and to be honest, we can’t really offer any sharper opinons based on these rather distorted recordings, which have been circulating the Web via Stairwell Baby. At the very least, here’s another hint of what to expect from Modern-era Vampire Weekend.
