Lana Del Rey Proves ‘Ladies Is Pimps Too’ in Jay-Z ‘Dirt Off My Shoulder’ Mashup

Lana Del Rey Jay-Z Mashup 'Dirt Off Your Shoulder (Boss)' Urban Noize

Another day, another impressively timely mashup. Yesterday we heard the Hood Internet dress up Daft Punk’s 15-second SNL ad in Justin Timberlake’s “Suit & Tie.” Now a South Florida remix duo called Urban Noize has put Lana Del Rey’s “You Can Be the Boss” together with Jay-Z’s “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” to surprisingly synchronicitous results (isn’t that always the way?).

The former is one of the New York singer’s more rap-influenced tracks (“Malt liquor on your breath, my my,” indeed) and everybody already knows that Hova is of boss-grade stock — that’s why he’s so casual about his upper body cleanliness. Aurally, the tracks fit together quite nicely, although LDR is mostly in the background, cooing all melancholy over a hip-hop beat like she’s trying out for a spot in CocoRosie.

But what could possibly be timely about this pairing? Glad you asked. Jay-Z was only just announced as the executive producer of the score for Baz Luhrmann’s forthcoming The Great Gatsby film, and Lana has all but confirmed that she’ll be contributing original music to the project (via Idolator). So make yourself a Mary Pickford or a French 75 before hitting play:
