Hear WILDLIFE!’s Dancehall-Inspired Banger ‘Klouds’

Mixpak Pressure: Volume 2

Over the last several years of handling production duties for embattled dancehall godhead Vybz Kartel and venerable new convert Snoop Lion, Brooklyn producer Dre Skull has made a name for himself among the more worldly communities of electronic production. Perhaps the most notable of his extramusical accomplishments is his careful curation of Mixpak Records, which Kartel — amongst others — has recently called home. The upcoming second installment of Mixpak’s ongoing compilation series, Mixpak Pressure, capitalizes on Dre’s association with the dancehall world, collecting 12, largely instrumental tracks inspired by the genre. Swiss beatmaker WILDLIFE! (born Samuel Reinhard) contributed “Klouds,” a dubby, synth-laden banger that weaves its way through taut snare fills and high pitched arpeggios over the course of its near five-minute runtime. There’s no mellifluous vocal run from Kartel or Snoop Dogg to weigh down the proceedings, but it’s probably better that way anyway.
