VH1 has cast the three leads in its upcoming TLC biopic, titled Crazy Sexy Cool: The TLC Story, and at least one of the principals has some musical chops. Hip-hop wunderkind and Viacom fam Lil Mama will star, happily, as the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in the made-for-TV movie, the network announced earlier this week.

KeKe Palmer (Akeelah and the Bee, Joyful NoiseIce Age: Continental Drift) will play Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Drew Sidora (Step Up, That’s So Raven) will take on the role of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins.

Director Charles Stone III (DrumlinePaid in Full) will helm the production, which is based on a script by Kate Lanier, the screenwriter of 1993’s Tina Turner biopic What’s Love Got to Do With It and 2001’s Mariah Carey-starring Glitter.

“With this cast, we are thrilled with the talent assembled both in front of and behind the cameras,” Jeff Olde, the executive vice president of original programming and production at VH1, said in a statement. “TLC are truly music pioneers and this movie is a fantastic way to expand our scripted push by combining our audience’s passion for music with their love of story. We know our viewers will be eager to go beyond the headlines and into the surprisingly personal, never before told stories of these groundbreaking women.”

Chilli and T-Boz will both serve as consultants and executive producers on the feature, which will begin shooting next month in Atlanta.

“There is so much to our story that hasn’t been told until this movie,” T-Boz said in a press release, perhaps as a nod to the 1999 episode of VH1’s Behind the Music that already covered the trio’s entire career. “Fans will be able to really understand the dynamic of the group and why that formula has not been able to be duplicated.”

“Not been able to be duplicated?” Not even with an ill-advised hologram of Left Eye?
