Swedish Metal Band Ghost Changes Name to Historically Inaccurate ‘Ghost B.C.’

ghost b.c., papa emeritus II

Swedish metal band Ghost must henceforth be referred to as Swedish metal band Ghost B.C. in the U.S. because of “legal reasons.”

In an official statement announcing the name change (via Blabbermouth), the mysterious six-piece writes, “Make no mistake though. The rituals still demand the same reverence and praise, fortified through a delivery of sweetly satanic melodies, snaking distorted riffs, and vaudevillian keyboards.” The reasoning behind the additional “B.C.” isn’t clear, but we suspect it has something to do with the other Ghost, the Japanese psych-rock band. (Also, not to split hairs, but as our own Christopher R. Weingarten pointed out on Twitter, if your lead singer dresses like the Pope, having “B.C.” in your name makes no sense.)

Ghost B.C.’s announcement also confirmed that their second album, Infestissumam (Latin for “hostile”), will emerge on April 9 via Loma Vista Recordings. Frontman Papa Emeritus II (formerly known just as Papa Emeritus) and his backing band of Nameless Ghouls have also revealed plans for a 24-date North American tour, starting with a Coachella performance on April 14. After that, the Dave Grohl-collaborators will stop by several cities in the U.S. and Canada, and wrap things up on May 19 at Columbus, Ohio’s Rock on the Range festival.

Scroll down to watch Ghost B.C. perform their new single, “Secular Haze,” and head down further for Infestissumam’s track list and Ghost B.C.’s upcoming tour dates.
