Milk Music Stay ‘Wild’ on First Track From Fat Possum Debut

Milk Music

“I’ve Got a Wild Feeling” sums up Milk Music’s neatly disheveled update of classic punk influences as much as any phrase. The Olympia, Washington, distortion-pedal heroes have been playing the song by that title live for a while, including a version at New York’s WFMU they eventually put out on cassette. Now, as Pitchfork reports, they’ve announced their first proper album, Cruise Your Illusion, will be out April 2 on Fat Possum, they’re headed out on the road with Gun Outfit this spring, and they’ve shared a re-recorded “Feeling” as a preview.

Though the random “smoke weed!” shout is gone and the overall recording is less smeary, that reckless abandon remains, with the cleaner sound quality conjuring up near-contemporaries Titus Andronicus or Japandroids as much as the SST-era bands to whom Milk Music are often compared. “I couldn’t even hit a fucking note that high,” singer/guitarist Alex Coxen deadpans, but neither can those guys, and anyway, he knows as well as you do that’s not the point.
