Watch David Byrne and St. Vincent Play a Full, Sparkling Concert

David Byrne St. Vincent

In sheerly mercenary terms, market logic would dictate that every time David Byrne tours in a setup that’s not just Talking Heads nostalgia, he’s leaving money on the table. So you know his artistic communion with St. Vincent must be worth it, and the two certainly show why in this professionally shot 40-minute set posted by NPR. Backed by a horn section, Byrne and St. Vincent mastermind Annie Clark engage in dazzling vocal, instrumental, and, um, dance-ical interplay as they run through songs from last year’s artily funky Love This Giant — and, okay, Talking Heads classic “Burning Down the House” (plus St. Vincent’s 2009 “Marrow”). That’s former Beirut member Kelly Pratt on lead horn, and the choreography is by Annie-B Parson of Brooklyn’s Big Dance Theater.
