Hear Dave Grohl’s Gruff ‘Sound City’ Collab With Slipknot’s Corey Taylor

Corey Taylor Dave Grohl Sound City From Can To Can’t

With his Sound City documentary headed to Sundance this week and now slated for openings all around the country, Dave Grohl is feeling generous. He’s shared a new song from the film’s forthcoming album accompaniment, Sound City — Real to Reel, which features Corey Taylor on lead vocals. If you’re not familiar with that name, a couple of others might ring a bell. The gruff-voiced but quite versatile singer is the frontman for both Slipknot and Stone Sour, and on his Grohl collabo “From Can to Can’t,” he delivers the kind of soulful performance that wouldn’t sound out of place on a late-album Queens of the Stone Age track. Albeit with instrumentation that’s oddly Pink Floyd meets Soundgarden thanks to Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen, and Kyuss bassist Scott Reeder. Click over to Antiquiet to listen.

Taylor is set to join Grohl’s star-studded Sound City Players for their Friday night show in Park City, Utah, along with plenty of other unlikely collaborators, from Stevie Nicks to the remaining members of Nirvana. The group has just added a Los Angeles date as well: January 31 at the Hollywood Palladium with what looks to be the exact same lineup. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, January 16, at noon PST via Ticketmaster.
