Dirty Projectors Explore Beautiful Wasteland in ‘Offspring Are Blank’ Video

dirty projectors, offspring are blank

Dirty Projectors sure are getting a lot of mileage out of their Kanye West-inspired short film, Hi Custodian. First, footage from the 20-minute non-narrative appeared in the video for “About to Die” — the “‘Thriller’-style” song off this year’s Essential Swing Lo Magellan — and now the Brooklyn-based art-pop shapeshifters have repurposed bits of Hi Custodian for their newest video, “Offspring Are Blank.” The four-minute clip for Magellan‘s opener focuses on frontman Dave Longstreth, who’s walking through a landfill wearing what looks to be Walter White’s radiation suit. When the camera isn’t on Longstreth and his silly putty delivery of the song’s low-key verses, it cuts to the entire six-piece, which billows “exhilarating gusts of Led Zeppelin-like guitar heroics” at the foot of a lush, misty mountain. Nonlinear and nonsensical? Sure. Goregous and bizarrely poetic? Definitely.
