Yo La Tengo Announce New Album ‘Fade,’ 2013 Tour

Yo La Tengo Fade New Album Tour

Hoboken alt-rock old schoolers Yo La Tengo have set a date for their first album since 2009’s Popular Songs. Their 13th full-length, Fade, is due January 15 via Matador and, according the the label’s Matablog, will be “reminiscent of landmarks like 1997’s I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One and 2000’s And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out.” The 10-song set will include the low-key stunner “Stupid Things,” which we first heard in September. Consistent with that track, the announcement promises “a tapestry of fine melody and elegant noise, rhythmic shadowplay and shy-eyed orchestral beauty, songcraft and experimentation.” Also promised: a new song to premiere tomorrow circa 10 a.m. EST on Mata.

Preorders are available now, and the deluxe vinyl version comes numbered, and printed on rainbow foil, with a bonus 7-inch thrown in. The extra platter will include covers of “I Saw the Light” by Todd Rundgren and “Move to California” by Times New Viking. Oh, and an 11-minute bonus download that’s yet to be named. To further sweeten the immediate pot, here’s a lyric from “Cornelia and Jane,” track number seven: “I hear them whispering, they analyze / But no one knows what’s lost in your eyes / Sending the message that doesn’t get to you / How can we care for you?” If you care for Yo La Tengo, catch ’em on tour next year.
