Watch Ty Segall Slay the ‘Doctor’ on ‘Letterman’

The joke is that CBS’s bread-and-butter audience, the Baby Boomers, must not make it to the musical guests on the Late Show with David Letterman, because why else would that show’s bookers go to such great lengths to prove they know what the kids are into. Last night, for instance, you had to stay awake through interviews with sitcom showrunner Ricky Gervais (The Office) and sitcom star Simon Helberg (The Big Bang Theory) to witness Bay Area garage-punk dynamo Ty Segall summarily thrash the fuck out on SPIN Essential Twins cut “You’re the Doctor.” After just a few epileptic minutes, the feedback-heavy chaos screeched to a halt with a plea from Segall to still-conscious America: “GO VOTE!” Letterman, for all his 65 years and perhaps not knowing what to make of it, bemusedly quipped “Remember kids, don’t neglect your studies,” and closed the show.
