Brian Eno’s first solo album in seven years, LUX, came out this week, and now the ambient guru is bringing it to luxe life online. An earlier name for the record was “play of light,” and he’s asking fans worldwide to contribute images under that theme during a “Day of Light” set for this Saturday, November 17. Fans can sign up for the Facebook event via Eno’s website.
The images will accompany four full online broadcasts of LUX throughout the day. During each broadcast fans can upload their photos, which Eno and his crew will pick from in real time and share with the world in what’s billed as “an evolving, live, and user-generated accompaniment to the music.” Given that the 75-minute album was inspired by the play of light through Eno’s studio window, he’s especially seeking photos as the light of a person’s day changes.
Eno plans, “if successful,” to keep track of all images and contributors as part of a permanent document of the online event. So one day’s play of light might well be viewable days, months, and even years later. Here’s wishing him the best of LUX.
