Usher Goes ‘Numb’ to Onstage Illness in Motivational EDM-Pop Video

Usher's 'Numb' video

Between Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga, vomiting on stage has been as trendy as a dubstep bass drop recently, but Usher is having none of it. Well, he’ll take the ravey EDM beats, thanks. In the latest video from the veteran R&B seducer’s varied 2012 album Looking 4 Myself, he begins with what looks like real footage of himself on stage in Berlin last year, canceling a show on account of illness. With electronic propulsion from the Swedish House Mafia, he croons sweetly about going comfortably numb, as the video shows him escaping from a glass box, sitting at a hospital bedside, spending quality time with kids, and looking lost at a strip joint. As with the album’s previous videos for “Scream” and “Climax,” it’s a well-polished spectacle, though where the latter song-of-the-year contender withholds gratification, this clip goes so far as to have Ursh shed a tear. He might be numb, but he’s still sensitive, you guys.
