Rihanna, Maroon 5 Confirm ‘SNL’ Has Run Out of New Musical Guest Ideas

Rihanna and Maroon 5 will each hit the stage at Saturday Night Live as musical guests next month, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Rihanna is scheduled to make her fourth SNL appearance — just six months after patting her cake to the shock and/or delight of audiences nationwide — on the November 10 episode, along with host and sometimes singer Anne Hathaway. A week later, on the November 17 broadcast, Maroon 5 will also play Studio 8H for the fourth time, appearing with first-time host, actor Jeremy Renner. Guess that Facebook campaign worked out.

No word on whether the bookings were the result of helpful fan suggestions, but at the very least this announcement solidifies NBC’s newfound committment to locking down legit chart-toppers, if not critical darlings, for its major programming blocks. (Insert Karmin joke here.) Last week, the network’s 30-somethings sitcom Up All Night namechecked Tanlines and Yeasayer, and this season of SNL already found spots for Frank Ocean, Muse, and Mumford & Sons. Pop trio fun. will perform on the November 3 episode, steered by stand-up comedian Louis C.K.

Rihanna, who skipped out on a dress rehearsal for her most recent SNL gig, will release her seventh studio album, Unapologetic, on November 19. Her follow-up to 2011’s Talk That Talk will also be packaged in a $250 deluxe “Diamonds Executive Platinum Box” edition, out on December 11. Though Maroon 5 — fronted, of course, by Voice judge Adam Levine — put out their fourth album, Overexposed, way back in June, their singles continue to hold steady in top chart positions. Looks like the band will be playing five-month old songs yet again.
