Carrie Underwood, Pink, and Pitbull Added to American Music Awards’ 2012 Performances
Christina Aguilera, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, and Linkin Park will also play the 40th anniversary show
Pink, Pitbull, and Carrie Underwood have been added to the American Music Awards’ 2012 performances lineup, joining previously announced performers Christina Aguilera, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, and Linkin Park. There are no hosts for this year’s show, but Lance Bass, Kimberly Cole, Brad Goreski, Sean Kingston, and Tristan Wilds will steer the program’s live online pre-show.
Pitbull, who performed at last year’s ceremony, received two American Music Awards nominations: Favorite Male Pop/Rock Artist and Favorite Latin Artist. Underwood was nominated twice, for her newest release, Blown Away, in the Favorite Country Album category and for Favorite Female Country Artist. She’ll face off with Swift in the latter category. Pink, like Aguilera, is not up for any of the fan-voted awards, but will still get some stage time.
Minaj is tied with Rihanna for the night’s most nominations and both will compete with Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson for Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist. Linkin Park will try to take home the prize as Favorite Alternative Rock Artist for a fifth time, following wins in 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2008.
Now in it’s 40th year, the awards ceremony, founded by the late Dick Clark, will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 18 at 8 p.m. EST. Fans can vote at the AMA website or at the show’s page on ABC’s website.
