Gaslight Anthem Switch Grunge Allegiance, Cover Foo Fighters

Gaslight Anthem's Brian Fallon

Gaslight Anthem’s Brian Fallon recently stopped by the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to promote the Jersey outfit’s new LP Handwritten. SPIN didn’t exactly love Gaslight’s new album (we gave it our dreaded Worst New Music tag) but Fallon ended up performing a song we do love: Foo Fighters’ “Everlong.” Everyone knows Gaslight Anthem really loves Pearl Jam — and the feeling is mutual — so it’s fitting that Fallon would cover a song by one of Vedder’s grunge peers.

The performance is essentially a slower, grittier take on the gorgeous and now-beloved acoustic version Grohl himself performed for the Howard Stern Show back in 1997. We’re not sure if Fallon’s taking Seattle requests, but we’d love to hear him play Candlebox’s “Far Behind” next. Check out his “Everlong” cover below (via Stereogum).
