Dave Sitek Launches New Label With Trent Reznor Remix
The TV on the Radio member and producer is really, really stoked
“Somewhere along the line music became ‘content.’ It’s my full intention to bring it back to music again! I believe in the power of song. Under the spell of the right song, passion is within reach, love is close by, and you are not alone! With such potency, music should be treated with care. The sound, the feel, the presentation … everything!”
So goes the ecstatic announcement from TV on the Radio member and Santigold co-producer Dave Sitek inaugurating his brand new boutique label Federal Prism. The first release is the “Destroyer” single from synthy Brooklyn art-poppers, Telepathe, backed with a remix by Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails collaborators Atticus Ross and Alessandro Cortini.
Sitek on his label’s first artist: “They are Blade Runner, they are lonely astronauts, they are mysterious! It’s hard to be progressive, even harder to bring the beautiful and the explosive with you! I knew from the moment the first lyric comes in, they would represent Federal Prism like a giant chrome ambassador! They would flag the new planet!”
“Detroyer” is out digitally October 9 and on vinyl October 30. Federal Prism will focus on limited edition 12-inch singles curated, recorded, mixed and produced by Sitek. He’ll even be personally silkscreening the jackets for each release, which come in runs of 500 per. Perhaps that’s why preorders for the debut single list the price as $25?
Or perhaps it’s because, as Sitek explains with evangelical verve, “I want to make hand-held music, undiminished by the need to make everybody in the world listen at once. The goal is to ride into the sunset, stereo blasting, and all of what’s got you worried will disappear in the rear view mirror! If you can feel what I’m saying, this music is for you.”
