Stream Ben Gibbard’s Solo Album ‘Former Lives’

Ben Gibbard Former Lives stream album Death Cab for Cutie

Death Cab for Cutie main man and consummate nice guy Ben Gibbard is streaming his first fully solo album a week early via YouTube. Former Lives can currently be played front to back as a single audio track (by the minute track-listing below), kicking off with the old timey barbersharp-style a capella intro, “Shepherd’s Bush Lullaby.” While the LP specializes in the kind of lightly literary, romantic folk-pop we heard on early tracks “Teardrop Windows” and the Aimee Mann-featuring “Bigger Than Love,” Former Lives is also prone to more ambitious moments like the psychedelic break in “Dream Song,” the bright mariachi bursts of the prairie paean, “Something’s Rattling (Cowpoke),” or the Beatles to Bowie blues of “Duncan, Where Have You Gone?”
