Death Cab’s Ben Gibbard Taking Solo Show on the Road

For the past eight years or so, Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard has been gearing up for his first solo album, Forever Lives, which will finally come out October 16. He’s released a few solo songs over the years, like his 2003 split EP, Home Volume 5 with Wooden Birds’ Andrew Kenny, and a few quirky dribs and drabs as of late (a cover of Stars’ “Set Yourself on Fire,” a tribute to baseball player Ichiro Suzuki), but we’re expecting Forever Lives to be a little less left-field. Only time will tell, though, since he told Stereogum recently, “It’s only my voice and songwriting that ties [the songs] all together.”

All will be revealed on or before September 26, when Gibbard plays the first of a couple of solo one-off dates leading up to a short tour in November. Advance Base — Owen Ashworth of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone’s lo-fi new band — will support him from November 1 through November 11, while indie-folkster Damien Jurado, who recently put out a beautiful video for his song “Museum of Flight,” will open for him on the remaining dates. Death Cab fan-club members can get presale tickets beginning tomorrow.
