See Die Antwoord’s Very Pink, Sorta NSFW ‘Baby’s On Fire’ Clip

Live, laugh, love

Being the baby of the Die Antwoord clan has its ups and downs. In the group’s new video, Yolandi Visser has an overbearing big brother, but she’s got her own Lisa Frank-y mural, a collection of Mr. T-level gold chains, and a babydoll that looks exactly like her. That’s almost enough to make a gal forget her brother Ninja wants to kill her drag-racing boyfriend.

The group’s new video for “Baby’s on Fire” (the ninth track on their Worst New Music Ten$ion) is absolutely nothing like the revolting nightmare that was their last treatment, for “I Fink U Freeky.” There’s a plot! It makes sense with the lyrics!

Granted, this is still Die Antwoord we’re talking about, so there’s obviously still almost comical violence, more Easter egg colors than a Nicki Minaj outfit, and a nearly-naked-women-doing-weird-things subplot (SPIN contributor Camille Dodero calls it the “Strip Club At the End of the Universe” aesthetic), but then again, it’s not like that’s too weird for a music video, either. All around, a job well done by South African director Terence Neale and Dude Antwoord’s own Ninja for a cinematic and literate take on the track.
