Ex-Paramore Drummer’s New Band Sounds Nothing Like Paramore

While his former bandmates in Paramore are still working on their first album without him, the group’s former drummer, Zach Farro has released a new music video for the song “Free the House” by his group HalfNoise. The artist — who per a press release inexplicably added an “h” to Zac sometime after his bitter 2010 departure from Paramore alongside his guitarist brother Josh — describes the music as “combining the ambiance of bands from Iceland with the sampling and electronic elements of Radiohead.”

What does it really sound like? Dreamy synth pop. The video, which you can watch below, finds the group whispering, singing gently and playing synths and chimes. Zach says that with his HalfNoise bandmates — Canon Blue frontman Dan Brigham and Zach’s childhood friend Jason Clark — he’s been exploring singing on his own, making samples and playing guitar and piano, in addition to drumming. The band, who will be touring later this month (dates below), intends to put out a proper release later this year. One thing that’s for sure when listening to it is that it’s radically different from the hard-edged pop-rock of Paramore.

“I wanted ‘Free the House’ to be the first music released to fans as it best represents my current style and creative direction in music,” Farro said in a statement. “The song illustrates what fans can expect to hear from HalfNoise in the future.” https://www.youtube.com/embed/vpUS1R24JOs?version=3 Tour dates:
