Snoop Dogg Playing Full ‘Doggystyle’ at Catalpa NYC Fest

The last time Snoop Dogg took the stage at a festival, he was flanked by Dr. Dre and hologram Tupac for Dre.’s headlining Coachella set. Over the July 28-29 weekend he’s scheduled to play all of Doggystyle at the first Catalpa NYC on New York’s Randall’s Island (a fest that also features the Black Keys, TV On The Radio, A$AP Rocky, Zola Jesus, Girl Talk, and many more). The LP has its own host of guests — Warren G, Kurupt, the Lady of Rage to name a few — and so far there’s been no indication whether everyone’s going to show up to do their parts. Snoop has done the full Doggystyle thing before, even in New York — at Rock the Bells 2010, for one — but this time he’s a tad closer to an actual milestone for the landmark album (it was released in November 1993, nearly 20 years ago).

But despite the recent return to his G-funk roots, Snoop really wants everyone to know he is moving in a more Rasta direction. As SPIN told you, he’s working on a reggae album with Diplo that’s reportedly due this fall. As if to prove the point, the Doggfather DJ’d at the Levi’s Haus in Los Angeles in full-on reggae-centric garb (down to his watchband, nice touch, Snoop). Not sure what’s up with the Portland jersey, though — is the longtime Lakers fan still holding a grudge against Gasol?
