Hear Metric’s Moody, Gleaming Rocker ‘Speed the Collapse’

Metric

Metric fans who pre-ordered the Canadian rockers’ new album through the band’s website got a shimmering surprise in their inboxes yesterday. That’s “Speed the Collapse,” a layered, sophisticated head-nodder from June 12 release Synthetica, and it was actually the second song sent with pre-orders. With OK Computer-dystopian guitar, pounding drums, and a sing-along vocal hook, the track shows a different side of Metric than the album’s first single, glam-rock battle cry “Youth Without Youth.” All this variety on offer so far lines up nicely with Metric frontwoman Emily Haines’ past statement that Synthetica “sounds like the culmination of everything we have done. We’ve always had a sound in our heads that we hoped to realize and we finally heard it coming back out of the speakers this time.” From their speakers to yours.
