Hear Eddie Vedder’s Honeyed Charity Track ‘Skipping’

For his contribution to the Every Mother Counts 2012, a charity compilation for the maternal health advocacy campaign of the same name, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder penned “Skipping,” a honeyed acoustic ballad that shares both a tone and melodic temperament with previous non-album material like early fan club single “Let Me Sleep (It’s Christmas Time)” and 2003’s “Man of the Hour.” And just as the latter — written for Tim Burton’s Big Fish — reflects on the bond shared between a father and son, “Skipping” sounds like it was written with Vedder’s daughters in mind. Olivia, 6, even makes a cameo in the song’s opening moments.

Every Mother Counts will be available for purchase in Starbucks across North America between May 1 and May 29, with one dollar from every purchase going to charity. It will also include previously unreleased contributions from Beck, Paul Simon, Coldplay, and Patti Smith.
