Fiona Apple’s New Album Title Is a 23-Word Poem

Fiona Apple

Fiona Apple has announced the title of her ever-elusive, long-awaited follow-up to 2005’s Extraordinary Machine, and yes, true to her style, it is 23 words long. The fourth Fiona Apple record will be called The Idler Wheel is wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords will serve you more than Ropes will ever do. Yup. Still, it’s a whole 61 words more concise than the 84-word title of 1999’s When the Pawn… We can’t wait to start referring to it as The Idler Wheel Is Doing This to Mock Our Desperation.

Fiona has announced two SXSW appearances — where she will be playing songs from this new album — and afterwards, she’s embarking on a brief tour to effectively raise fans’ blood pressure in anticipation of the record, which still doesn’t have a release date, but is probably, kind of, we hope, coming out this spring.
