Look who’s embracing that newfangled dance music thing SPIN’s been talking about — mtvU’s Woodie Awards! The college network announced the nominees for its 2012 ceremony today, and Skrillex is up for two of the show’s five honors, including Woodie of the Year and Performing Woodie. What’s more, the show has added a whole category with the term “Electronic Dance Music” in it — EDM Effect Woodie — whose nominees include names like Avicci, Flux Pavilion, and Benny Benassi.

Black Keys and Mac Miller are nominated for Woodie of the Year, as are Frank Ocean, Foster the People (one of our least favorite Beach Boys collaborators), and J. Cole. No love for lady nominees there, but Alabama Shakes will compete for Performing Woodie (against Jay-Z and Kanye West) and everyone’s favorite new artist Lana Del Rey is up for Breaking Woodie (against Cloud Nothings, Azealia Banks, Porter Robinson, and Tune-Yards, among an eclectic list of others).

The Woodies are held during SXSW in Austin, Texas, this year on March 15 at 8 p.m. MTV and mtvU will air a wrap-up of “best moments” on March 18 at 8 p.m. ET. Voting starts next Wednesday and closes on March 9 at Woodies.mtvU.com.
