Radiohead Set to Drop Two ‘King of Limbs’ Outtakes

Two of the best Radiohead songs of 2011 didn’t appear on this February’s The King of Limbs. Nor were they included on the British rock aesthetes’ two-disc remix compilation, TKOL RMX 1234567, or its preceding series of 12-inch singles (don’t think too hard about why such an anti-commercial band always seems to have a new product to hawk). Just in time for holiday shopping, however, Radiohead will be releasing “The Daily Mail” and “Staircase,” a pair of excellent outtakes from The King of Limbs sessions.

The two-track Radiohead single will be available digitally on December 19, the band has announced. Hear 30-second clips of each song over at Amazon.com. It appears from the press release and the Amazon clips that these are the same performances filmed as part of Radiohead’s From the Basement live special, shown on the BBC earlier this year.

Radiohead are also releasing that special as The King of Limbs: Live from the Basement, out digitally on December 19. Pre-orders of the DVD and Blu-Ray will ship in time for Christmas, the band has said. (In addition, the DVD and Blu-Ray edition will be available at independent retailers on January 31.)

Radiohead brought “The Daily Mail” to The Colbert Report and “Staircase” to Saturday Night Live, so the band’s high regard for these non-album tracks isn’t exactly a surprise. Watch the Live from the Basement performances:
