Sepalcure, ‘Sepalcure’ (Hotflush)

New York duo Sepalcure prove that there’s more to American dubstep than mosh pits and mash-ups. Travis Stewart (Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (Braille) draw liberally from Chicago footwork, ’90s house, and the soca-fueled sound of U.K. funky, but they balance tricky syncopations and rapid-fire chord stabs with airy vocals and ethereal effects, putting a heady spin on futuristic club rhythms. From ambient juke to haunting, slo-mo house, their debut album kicks and caresses in equal measure.
