Kidz in the Hall, ‘Occasion’ (Duck Down)

There’s nary a song on Kidz in the Hall’s fourth album that doesn’t toast to over-imbibing. It’s a notable change for rapper Naledge and producer Double O, who announced themselves in 2006 on the resurrected Rawkus label as studious Ivy Leaguers wearing backpacks (album title: School Was My Hustle). But five years of the industry runaround can change an artist — in this case, for the creative good. So Occasion opts for Kanye-esque stadium-status beats, merry lyrics that include perhaps the only rap reference to a “bar stool in Poughkeepsie,” and a joyous closing cut called “Walk on Air.” Cheers, as the Kidz now say.
