Megafaun, ‘Megafaun’ (Hometapes)

Few bands come off as crunchy as Megafaun, while even fewer sound quite as sonically rad. Sequenced like an upside-down bell curve, the band’s fetching fourth album opens with the vintage hippie wisdom, musique concrète, extended space rock, and lush, jazzy Americana of “Isadora.” Then the North Carolina-based trio hone in on a handful of intimately acoustic “relationship” songs, including the guilt-ridden “Kill the Horn.” A subsequent return to the weird includes an electronic “Postscript” plus a hidden track, which turns out to be an off-world, freak-out barn dance.
