EXCLUSIVE: Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner Unplugs

Arctic Monkeys have never been much for acoustic performances, preferring to deliver their taut Brit rock plugged in — and loud. But at the band’s recent cover shoot for SPIN’s July issue, frontman Alex Turner stepped to the microphone solo and delivered a spare but stunning take on the title track from his band’s fourth album, Suck It And See. Watch it here!

Before playing the tune, Turner explained one of the lyrics in the song’s first verse, in which he lauds the uniqueness of his muse: “You’re rarer than a can of dandelion and burdock / And those other girls are just post-mix lemonade.”

“There’s a mention of a fizzy drink in it called ‘dandelion and burdock,’ and I don’t know how familiar everybody will be with that,” Turner said. “It’s hard to describe the taste of it. You don’t have it as frequently as you’d have a Coke, or whatever. You should try it though.”
