Watch Coldplay’s Colorful First Single

Coldplay are a colorful bunch. The Brit band lit up the music world with the fuchsia-friendly, Sgt. Pepper’s-esque paramilitary uniforms designed for their last album, 2008’s Viva La Vida, and in their new music video for “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall,” the lads haven’t lost their touch – the clip is like a spin-art painting come to life.

Frontman Chris Martin and Co. — wearing some casual, but very colorful outfits themselves — perform the anthemic, Joshua Tree-inspired rock jam in a desolate industrial setting, as the lyrics appear written on the walls of the surrounding buildings in neon paint. As the track’s melodies gradually build skyward, so does the paint’s chaotic nature: Soon it’s splattering, running, exploding, mixing, and forming gorgeous designs over every surface of the abandoned warehouse.

It’s a gorgeous treat for the eyes — and a work of art in itself.
