See Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner Unplugged

Arctic Monkeys have just started their North American tour, and the British rockers have been debuting songs from their excellent new album Suck It and See. But when the band hit Toronto this week, frontman Alex Turner dropped by radio station 102.1 to perform awesome acoustic versions of two new tracks: “Love Is a Laserquest” and “Suck It and See.” Check out footage here.

For his two-song set, Turner doesn’t do too much fussing with the album versions, although his solo set allows his warm, Elvis-style baritone to shine through. “Suck It and See” sounds especially gorgeous without his backing band’s harmonies, while “Love Is a Laserquest” – which features Turner’s lyrics about lost loves and growing older – is downright chilling, especially coming from a quietly reserved Brit like Turner. (He abruptly ends the tune with a quick “Thank you” before he lets his emotions get the best of him, it appears.)
