New Green Day Music, Weezer Does Radiohead

  • According to Billie Joe Armstrong, Green Day are writing music for their 21st Century Breakdown follow-up, and they’ve already laid down a “ton” of new songs. “The direction is fresh and hi energy,” Armstrong posted on Twitter. “Feels great…Me, Mike [Dirnt], Tré [Cool], and Jason [White, touring guitarist] are collaborating and having the best time playing music. And that’s not bullshit!”

  • British rockers Kaiser Chiefs have released a new song and video titled “Little Shocks.” The grimy, electro-heavy anthem will be featured on the band’s upcoming LP, due out this year.

  • Coldplay have released another teaser for their upcoming album, due out this year. In the clip – a follow-up to arty footage of the band in the studio, posted in March – lyrics (“But my heart is beating and my pulses start”) are set to blippy, synth-heavy music.UPDATE: Coldplay will release a new single titled “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall” this Friday, according to a post from drummer Will Champion on the band’s website.

  • Black Eyed Peas‘ singer Fergie has revealed that frontman Will.i.am is working on a new solo record, titled Black Einstein. “I want it for the gym,” she said. “He’s so amazing – just such a genius lyricist and I’m really excited for this project.” The LP, which does not have a release date, is Will’s follow-up to 2007’s Songs About Girls.   • Roger Waters has hinted that the surviving Pink Floyd members will not reunite again, after their surprise live appearance in London earlier this month. “I’m really glad that I was in that band for the 20 years that I was in it and I really enjoyed it,” he told the BBC radio program Desert Island Discs. “I think we did some great work together but I have no wish to do it ever again.” [BBC]
