Moby, ‘Destroyed’ (Mute)
Moby’s new studio album comes accompanied by a book of photos documenting the untold hours that he’s spent cooling his techno-titan heels in green rooms and airports. So perhaps these drifting New Age soundscapes are supposed to be boring? A few times he catches a spark and rises above the mid-tempo morass, as on the funky spy-flick trifle “After” and “Be the One,” which sounds like Daft Punk remixing Queens of the Stone Age. Mostly, though, Destroyed is about as appetizing as a warmed-over deli tray.
