WATCH: Adele’s ‘Deep’ New Video

Here’s a tip: Don’t break British soul songstress Adele’s heart. Because you’ll pay for it.

The 22-year-old just released the video for “Rolling in the Deep,” the hot-blooded first single off her upcoming second album, 21 (out Feb. 22), in which she tells an ex-lover to “think of me in the depths of your despair.” And the video is a visual take on the song’s emotional outpour.

The clip, helmed by the acclaimed director Sam Brown (Jay-Z, Foo Fighters), finds Adele crooning in an abandoned house, as the song’s beat (not unlike a heartbeat) shakes hundreds of more-than-half-full glasses of water. As her rage builds, dishes smash against the wall, and sparks begin to fly, creating a miniature replica of a city ablaze — a not-too-veiled and artful metaphor for a shattered relationship.
