  Why You Should Follow: Since Kanye West started tweeting, there might as well be no one else on Twitter. Within days, he had 300,000 followers – now he’s approaching 500,000. Not only that, but in his first nine days on Twitter, he managed to tweet 198 times – that’s about 22 tweets per day. While his updates are sometimes almost obnoxiously arrogant (“I need this horse… Kings need horses”), they also offer an unprecedented behind-the-scenes glimpse into the decadent madness that is Kanye’s life. He sleeps on fur pillows, jogs in Lanvin, micromanages his GOOD Music label (“Tell everyone at the label only use Gothic or Helvetica fonts for email blast unless I otherwise approve”), and is only satisfied with the biggest jets and the most regal home décor he can find (“I specifically ordered persian rugs with cherub imagery!!! What do I have to do to get a simple persian rug with cherub imagery uuuuugh”). Look out for fabulous Twitpics of extravagant Dries Van Noten shoes, the thrones and crowns he aspires to own, and the real diamonds he puts on his teeth. If you want in on the action, try playing the hashtag games “#PredictingKanyeTweets” or “#KanyeNewYorkerTweets,” in which followers match Kanye’s tweets with New Yorker cartoons.

  Why You Should Follow: This Gossip Girl star and Courtney Love wannabe brings tons of surly teenage angst to her performances with her post-grunge band, the Pretty Reckless, but on Twitter, she’s nothing but sweet. She gamely answers her fans’ questions (revealing that her favorite food is Taco Bell, she loves Led Zeppelin and the Beatles, and her biggest fear is tripping in her mile-high shoes), posts enthusiastic tweets about upcoming performances and album news, and admits to hanging out with the Jonas Brothers and having chores to do (like cleaning her room). She posts great Twitpics (like this one from a concert in Detroit) and always makes sure to give shout-outs to the dedicated fans who follow her from city to city (and sometimes tattoo her lyrics on themselves). Now that she’s the new face of Madonna’s Material Girl clothing line for Macy’s, expect lots of tweets about promotional events and hanging out with Madge and her daughter Lola!

  Why You Should Follow: We’ve been longtime fans of Katy Perry’s tweets – she was one of our very first Follow Friday picks – but like a good wine, they’ve just gotten better with time. The sexy singer has been churning out hit after hit this summer, getting songs like the sugar-sweet “California Gurls” and nostalgic “Teenage Dream” stuck in all of our heads. She’s also been busy planning her upcoming wedding to dirty-minded comedian Russell Brand – a wedding that’s already generated tons of rumors (like that fellow pop starlet Rihanna will be the maid-of-honor and Morrissey will perform at the reception). Through it all, she’s tweeted up a storm, documenting her adventures on the road (“I just held a press conference in a swimming pool, no joke. #onlyinasia”), posting Twitpics of her outrageous, sparkly manicures and party fouls, tweet-flirting with @rustyrockets, and starting a Twitter campaign to adopt Justin Bieber. Look out for previews of upcoming videos and, er, alternate album covers!
