The lineup for the Virgin Mobile Fest was unveiled Tuesday, and like last year’s event, the 2010 installment is looking to be one the summer’s musical highlights: M.I.A., LCD Soundsystem, Pavement, T.I., and Ludacris top an eclectic bill set to take the stage at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD, on September 25. The best part: tickets are free. Zero. Nada. Zilch. Yes, completely free.

Thank you Virgin Chairman and 261st Richest Person in the World, Sir Richard Branson, who announced the lineup on a new web TV show, Virgin Mobile Live, on virginmobilefestival.com.

Rounding out the fest’s bill are Joan Jett, Thievery Corporation, Matt & Kim, Jimmy Eat World, the Temper Trap, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes, and Yeasayer. This year’s event will also feature a “dance forest,” where artists like Chromeo, Sleigh Bells, Die Antwoord, Modeselektor, and Neon Indian will perform.

“Because we have the luxury of giving away the tickets it becomes a privilege to book the most important acts out there,” said Virgin Mobile FreeFest concert producer Seth Hurwitz. “Our goal is simply to book the coolest bands we can. This year we’re breaking with the traditional format of monster headliner trickling down to baby bands, and instead we’re sprinkling fantastic acts all day long. It’s kind of like a festival on full-day shuffle.”

To score your free ticket to Virgin Fest, head to ticketfly.com at 10 A.M. EST on Saturday, July 24. Virgin Mobile customers and previous Virgin Mobile Festival ticket holders will be invited via text and email to a private “free-sale” on Friday July 23.

While the show is free, Virgin Mobile is encouraging fans to donate $5 to end youth homelessness and receive a 20-minute mash-up of the fest’s performing acts, remixed and produced by Rusko.
