Terrific Twitter Trio of the Week: ‘Twilight’ Edition!

100702-twilight.jpg

Lots of musicians tweet – but all that Twitters is not gold.

That’s why you’ll want to check out SPIN.com every Friday to see whose tweets we’re reading this week – then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: …while you’re at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)

This week, to celebrate the opening of Twilight: Eclipse, we’ve been following the Cullen family on Twitter… well, the actors who play the Cullens, anyway. Check ’em out, then go see the movie, now in theaters:

  • Kellan Lutz
    @kellanlutz

    Why You Should Follow: Don’t be fooled by Kellan Lutz’s creepy Twitter background (it’s a picture of the actor covered in fake blood, giving the camera a murderous stare) — this vampire’s got a heart of gold. Lutz, who plays Emmett Cullen in the Twilight series, uses his Twitter page to spread awareness about the various charities he supports. Lately, he’s been touting the efforts of the Noreen Fraser Foundation, which funds research to cure women’s cancers, and the St. Bernard Project, which is focused on rebuilding New Orleans and providing relief for Hurricane Katrina survivors. He’s also been active in supporting the cleanup of the Gulf oil spill, urging his fans to donate money and learn more about what can be done to save the Gulf (“Just watched some amazing videos on how HAY and WHEAT GRASS soak up oil and can be such a life saving solution for the oil spill”). Bonus points: He often tweets “Happy birthday” to his fans!

    Best Tweet of the Week: To fans waiting outside the ‘Eclipse’ premiere, he wrote, “Let me know who you are and if your going to have a sign or anything and what it might look like and or any way I can remember who is who… so i can properly say hello by name and give you a big hug and thank you!”

  • Ashley Greene
    @AshleyMGreene

    Why You Should Follow: This Twilight hottie — who plays Alice Cullen in the series — is constantly be on the move. If she’s not screening a movie in Austin, TX, she’s attending a premiere in Madrid or a wedding in Turks and Caicos. Whew! Lucky for fans, she always finds time to tweet. Expect lots of eccentric musings (“I wonder who’s lovely locks would sell for more on eBay… Justin Bieber or Rob Pattinson. It’s a toss up”), Twitpics of her adorable dog Marlo, and tweets about her various travels and adventures (which range from dying her hair to learning how to jetski).

    Best Tweet of the Week: “Had SUCH an amazing time at the Eclipse premiere! Thank you to all of the amazing fans that came to show their love! Love you guys!!”

  • Peter Facinelli
    @peterfacinelli

    Why You Should Follow: Peter Facinelli plays the blood-sucking dad of Edward, Alice, and Emmett Cullen, but in real life, he’s more of a carpooling dad. Many of his tweets are devoted to his three kids and the funny things they say and do (“I was singing in the car and my 3 yr old said, ‘OK.. that’s enough of that!’ Everyone’s a critic I tell ya”), and quite a few of his Twitpics were taken during family vacations (like this one of a rendezvous with Minnie Mouse at Disneyland). He’s got a great sense of humor (when one fan asked him via Twitter who he was supporting in the World Cup, he responded, “Uh, Team Edward?”) and, just like Kellan, he often uses Twitter to speak out about charitable causes (like Make a Clean Difference, a program dedicated to sprucing up public schools around the country).

    Best Tweet of the Week: This picture from a mystery dinner party he and his wife, Jennie Garth, threw for one of their daughters.
