Bun B has had a career longer than many new jacks’ lifetimes-UGK’s Too Hard to Swallow dropped in antediluvian 1992-but he’s been a model of consistency, not reinvention. Over brassy stabs, winding organs, and bass thumps that sound like upstairs neighbors dropping barbells, the Texas vet delivers his usual workmanlike couplets about hustling, wood-grain dash kits, and blasting foes “in the chest with the nina.” What else is there? Partner Pimp C’s death left Bun a soloist, but he’s a natural co-conspirator: Collaborations with Drake, Young Jeezy, and T-Pain lack the BBQ spare-rib smokiness of vintage UGK, but still satisfy.
