WATCH: Creepy Interpol Video for “Lights”

The members of Interpol don’t appear in the just-released clip for “Lights” (the first single off the band’s self-titled fourth album, due in September), but the video echoes the song’s brooding post-punk with beautifully shot, completely creepy visuals. Watch it below.

Directed by Charlie White, who also helmed the eerie, puppet-centric video for the band’s 2004 single “Evil,” the “Lights” clip depicts two vinyl-clad women shaving a third girl, injecting her with a giant syringe, then watching as she excretes massive quantities of a milky liquid out of her eyes and mouth into a collection vat.

Is it a sci-fi interpretation of the druggy, dark corners of NYC nightlife that have always inspired Interpol’s music? Or the sequel to that weirdo J. Lo movie, The Cell? We really have no clue.

But the song is vintage Interpol, and simmers tantalizingly on the verge of explosion throughout. Download an MP3 here.

Interpol played their first show in two years earlier this week in Rochester, NY (click here for a photo gallery), and have added a number of U.S. dates through July and August — click here for the full itinerary.
