Former Panic! at the Disco members Ryan Ross and Jon Walker are taking their new band the Young Veins on the road this summer.
The trek opens on June 11 at Tennessee’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, and from there the quintet — Ross on rhythm guitar and vocals, Walker on lead guitar, Andy Soukal on bass, Nick White on keyboards, and Nick Murray on drums — will hit 30 cities across the U.S. in less than six weeks. Citing “musical differences,” Ross and Walker left Panic! in July 2009 to pursue their own brand of sunny pop-rock and form the Young Veins. “Though the four of us have made music together in the past, we’ve creatively evolved in different directions which has compromised what each of us want to personally achieve,” said a statement on the Panic! website at the time.
Young Veins are prepping for the June 8 release of their debut album, Take a Vacation. Phantom Planet frontman Alex Greenwald — best know as the songwriter behind “California,” the theme song to defunct hit TV series The O.C. — worked with the band on all 11 new tracks. In March, the Young Veins impressed at their first-ever live show, ripping throughTake a Vacation tracks in Los Angeles in front of local musicians like Greenwald, Jenny Lewis, and Edward Sharpe. Read SPIN’s review of the performance here.
