Beck’s Record Club series features indie all-stars joining Beck in the studio to re-imagine classic albums. For the fourth installment, Annie Clark and Daniel Hart from St. Vincent, NYC experimental groupLiars, Sergio Dias from Brazilian band Os Mutantes, and Record Clubveteran Brian Lebarton joined Beck to record Kick, the 1987 chart-topper from Aussie New Wavers INXS. Check out a performance video of “Guns in the Sky” below!

The eclectic group of rockers joined forces for one day and recorded the full record with no prior rehearsal. Starting today, Beck will roll out one song a week on his website.

Previous Record Club redos have included albums by the Velvet Underground, Skip Spence, and Leonard Cohen — with collaborations including Devendra Banhart, Feist, and MGMT.

The Record Club take on “Guns in the Sky,” the first track on Kick, retains the original’s jagged guitar riffs and pounding drum beat, and Liars frontman Angus Andrew — an Aussie, like INXS themselves — adds a jaded tinge to Michael Hutchence’s verses.

Watch the new version below, and, if you haven’t heard the original “Guns in the Sky,” scroll down a bit further to watch INXS performing the track live at London’s Wembley Stadium. Does the remake do the original justice? Sound off in the comment section below.
