Detroit garage rockers the White Stripes claim the U.S. Air Force re-recorded their hit song “Fell in Love With a Girl” for a commercial aired during this Sunday’s Super Bowl, without the band’s permission.

“The White Stripes take strong insult and objection to the Air Force Reserves presenting this advertisement with the implication that we licensed one of our songs to encourage recruitment during a war that we do not support,” the band wrote on their website. “We simply don’t want to be a cog in the wheel of the current conflict and hope for a safe and speedy return home for our troops.”

The ad was part of a recruiting campaign for the Air Force Reserve, whose 67,000 members back up the main Air Force. As of publication time, there has been no official Air Force reaction to the band’s claim, although the recruitment video was removed from its site.
